As an effect of World War Two, Europe was destroyed and its people’s hearts along with it. Somebody had to take action, so I came up with an idea to loan money to European nations in need. This wasn’t cheap of course since it included $13 billion worth of US dollars from the government. This was welcome to all European nations but of course the Soviets did not accept it. USSR polices are completely different from our democratic institutions. Secretly, our belief was that communist aggression fed off economic turmoil. Of course we did not say that publicly and I even mentioned at a commencement speech at Harvard that “Our policy is not directed against any country or doctrine but against hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos.”
Regardless, the division of Europe appeared to be sped up faster into two opposing blocs. Almost all Western European nations used our help while Eastern European nations refrained from it. Hmm I wonder if Stalin of Russia had something to do with it... Word has even spread that Stalin pushed for more authoritarian control of Eastern Europe to guard Soviet interest. We cannot trust them completely just yet...
I admit that we have an ulterior motive since nations that accept our grant will feel obliged to side with us. However, the ending result of this will only serve to improve Europe’s terrible condition. Since the enactment of my plan, the economy has been growing rapidly and stronger for nations that requested for our funds while other nations obviously did not get the same benefit.

ReplyDeleteYour plan to help restore the European economy is great...but I am pained to see that the Communists are not accepting the United State's offer. The Soviet leaders need to learn to take a leap of faith and learn that Communism is not the only way to rule. In fact, there are many better ways to rule. The Communist leaders need to observe the Presidents and other leaders of other great countries and realize that no censorship is a good way to help improve the country. Your new financial plan will cost a lot of money but I am sure that small states under Communist control will learn to step up with your aid.

The Marshall Plan is one of great brilliance for it helps the international economy, but also helps to make the Soviet Union rather insecure. It certainly was necessary for such a plan to be made, considering the horrific plans the Soviet Union, themselves, were cumulating. Fortunately, you had come up with the Marshall Plan while I had been writing telegrams and an article to spread my opposing views on the Soviet Union’s, perhaps selfish, intentions. Indeed, you are that brilliant good president who has not only given me the opportunity to serve the United States through the position of director of State Department’s policy-planning staff, but also through wonderful plans that fulfill my abhorrence for the USSR’s actions.

I would like to thank you on behalf of France on what you did. The plan was marvelous. Germany's ambitious and selfish invasions caused many economic problems for us. Your generosity helped us rebuild our damaged economy. For this, you have gained our support. We would love to aid you when your in need and we give you the best of luck to stop the spread of communism.

I am speaking for the people of Italy. Thank you for coming up with this "Marshall Plan". The Money that you have given us is really showing up in the economy and the money has also helped fund my movie projects. I am sure that every Italian would also say the same thing. Thanks
ReplyDeleteMr. Marshall, you have just made my day. Hearing about the "Marshall Plan," I totally agreed with your intention to rebuild the European nations in dire need of funds. I'm particularly fascinated by the silence of the Eastern Europeans. If my suspicions are correct, the Soviet Union now controls these countries with puppet regimes. It's an unfortunate change of events since the Eastern countries were hit hard by World War II. Nevertheless, we westerners need to stick together if the Commies are running the show over in Eastern Europe. It could be only a matter of time before they come waltzing over to France. I applaud you on your genius and hope that your plan will solidify the bonds between the U.S. and Western Europe.
